Preparing your ground for concrete

If you are planning on tackling the initial ground preparation for your concrete project, start by marking the dimensions so you know exactly what area needs to be cleared. Then keep the following in mind.

• Remove the grass and roots completely. You will need a few inches of depth to accommodate the concrete, so there is no need to shake off the excess dirt.
• Shrubbery, weeds, scrub, rocks and small stones all must be cleared from area to be poured.
• While tiny weed roots will not cause a problem, root systems from larger plants and shrubs must be completely removed.
• Once the area is free of roots, stones, and organic matter, level the marked area as much as possible. Our professionals will check your work!
• If you have tamping equipment, tamp the area to make it fully compacted.
